Radio Frequency Engineer is responsible for the analysis, design, implementation, optimization and enhancement of wireless communications networks. Responsibilities include link budgets analysis, system dimensioning for coverage and capacity including traffic analysis, initial system design and dimensioning, coverage planning, site identification, evaluation and zoning support, frequency planning, interference analysis and optimization. Possess knowledge of antenna structure design and construction. Oversee and guide the work of Associate Engineers and RF Technicians. Be responsible for overseeing the day to day operations of the projects, and interface with Project Managers. Answer technical questions as well as day to day operational questions. Possess excellent verbal and written skills and have the ability to present technical information to non-technical individuals. Possess good judgment, analytical skills, and strong follow-up and organizational skills. Be able to adapt to frequent changes in technology and requirements in a fast-paced environment. Possess experience using AutoCAD and/or Visio CAD applications with ability to prepare design drawings to scale and bills of material. Must have a professional appearance and attitude, excellent communications skills, excellent interpersonal skills, must work well in a team environment. Must possess ability to multitask and be able to prioritize tasks.
job requirements
- Min 5 years of RF network design experience, 10 years experience in RF related field
- Knowledge of FCC radio licensing procedure
- Bachelors of Electrical Engineering or related RF Communications, Masters or higher degrees an asset
- Working knowledge of RF planning process and use of propagation tools
- Experience with PTP microwave backhaul radios (5.8, 18, 23 GHz, etc…)antenna structures, relays, filters, amplifiers
- Vendor management experience preferred
- Expected to have a solid understanding and hands-on experience with RF instrumentation and tools
- Working knowledge and experience in IP networking a strong asset
- Working knowledge of SCADA systems desired
- Excellent communications, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills
- Flexible person with ability to manage stressful situations and adapt to changing environments with minimum supervision
- Able to work within accelerated schedules and be adaptive to change
- Willing to travel
- Should be capable of climbing ladders/stairs and antenna structures whilst carrying test equipment
- Valid, clean, drivers license required
- Good communications skills both oral and written
- Experience with satellite earth station communications desired
- Be able to move, lift and rack/mount equipment weighing up to 75lbs

•Ability to perform all stages of RF design, including search ring process, optimal site selection, link budget analysis, RF sweep evaluation, interference mitigation and spectrum management to include antenna structures•Utilize propagation modeling techniques to complete RF design of large-scale complex wireless communications network systems•Develop, train and collaborate with field techs to ensure RF drive testing is done correctly•Daily maintenance and problem resolution; quickly identify, diagnose and resolve communications network issues•Plan and execute change management procedures•Daily performance and security monitoring of the wireless communications networks•Create and maintain comprehensive documentation, to include drawings, diagrams, reports and executive briefs•Utilize complex test equipment and post processing tools for network optimization•Work with NOC/Tier 3 and equipment suppliers to resolve product defects•Troubleshoot RF coverage issues•Participate in on-call rotation duties
